You just got engaged – congrats! With so many aspects to planning a wedding you maybe wondering, what’s next? Should we have engagement photos done? Why do we need engagement photos? You may heard that engagement sessions are a way to get to know your photographer, it’s a practice run before the big day, you can use them for your save the dates or display them on your wedding day (I’ll touch on this below) Now, these are all very true and beneficial, but the real reason is this is a time in your life that is special – it’s a milestone in your relationship and what better way to remember this than capturing the feeling through photography.

Getting to know your photographer

You’ve search and found a photographer whose style matches your vision – great! At your first meeting it felt right, you and your photographer are a great match. You’ve booked and now you’re ready for your engagement session! The relationship between you and your photographer will further grow during the engagement session. It’s a chance for your photographer to see how the two of you interact, to better give direction and get to know what you like. Getting to know what works for the couple allows for seamless wedding portraits.

You're able to get comfortable

Maybe you’re camera-shy, or nervous because you don’t know what to expect. You’re entering uncharted territory! It’s normal to feel a range of emotions just before the session begins. You’re not sure what to do or how to pose for the camera – don’t worry! Your photographer is there to guide you through the session, give you direction if needed and will help you relax. Engagement session will help you and your partner find that grove, you’ll start to relax and suddenly feel confident – you’ve two got this! Now you’re more prepared than you could have ever imagined and can’t wait for your wedding day portraits.

Reflect and Feedback

Engagement sessions are also a chance for you to reflect and give feedback. Was there a moment in the engagement session and photos that you loved? Let your photographer know! We want to know what you loved about the session and what you’d like to capture on your wedding day. Your photographer will get to know you during the session, but we’d be lying if we said there wasn’t room for improvement. So, please let your photographer know what you loved, what you want to see more of on your wedding day, or if at any point you weren’t 100% comfortable! We’ll strive to be the best we can be for our clients and always appreciate feedback from our clients – this is how we grow and learn.
